PHOTOGRAPH GUIDE

HORSE REGISTRATION PHOTOGRAPH GUIDE

Photos must be taken in good lighting, on flat ground, and with a contrasting background so the horse is clearly visible.

The photographer should stand:

  • Perpendicular (at a right angle) to the horse for side-on photos.
  • Square-on (directly in front) for front-on photos.

All identifying markings, including whorls, scars, or other unique features, must be clearly visible in the images.

Updated photos are encouraged if the horse has undergone significant changes, such as maturation or new scars or markings that aid in identification

SIDE ON PHOTOS

Take one photo from each side of the horse.

Aim the camera at the centre of the body to capture a symmetrical view.

If long, move the mane to the opposite side when photographing each side to expose any whorls or scars.

FRONT ON PHOTOS

Aim the camera at the centre of the chest.

The horse’s head should be elevated enough to clearly show the chest and front legs.

HEAD PHOTO

Move the forelock aside to ensure all facial whorls and scars are visible.
