ELIGIBILITY TO UPGRADE TO ADULT (MARE) REGISTRATION
AFHA Foundation Foal (Filly) registrations can be upgraded to Foundation Adult (Mare) registrations once the horse reaches 3 years of age or older.
To upgrade a registration, owners or breeders must complete the online Foundation Mare Upgrade form (below).
To complete the upgrade, you will need to submit:
A completed Foundation Mare Upgrade form, including a self-declaration of the mare’s suitability for breeding.
New photos of the mare, following the AFHA Photograph Guidelines (Section 3.3.4).
Once your application and documents are reviewed and approved, your mare will receive full adult registration.
If the mare does not meet the eligibility criteria, she will retain her foal registration. She may still compete in AFHA performance events, but any offspring she produces will not be eligible for registration.
Both Owner Members and Breeder Members are eligible to apply for a mare upgrade.
REGISTRY INTEGRITY
If there are concerns about the mare’s identity or breeding suitability, the AFHA may require a veterinary examination (at the cost of the owner or breeder) to confirm:
No congenital abnormalities,
No disqualifying white markings, and
That the mare submitted is the same horse viewed by the veterinarian.
UPGRADE PROCESS
Upgrading your Norwegian Fjord Horse filly with the Australian Fjord Horse Association (AFHA) helps maintain the integrity of the breed and ensures accurate, up-to-date records.
1. Take your new photos. You’ll need to upload:
- Four clear photos showing: left side, right side, front on view and clear headshot.
2. Complete the Foundation Mare Upgrade (below). This includes a self-declaration of the mare’s suitability for breeding.
3. AFHA Review and Approval. Your application will be reviewed by the AFHA Registration Committee. Most registrations are processed promptly, but please allow time for verification and application approval.
4. Receive Your Certificate. Once approved, you’ll receive a formal registration certificate via email. This document remains with the horse for life and is required for participation in breed events, assessments, and breeding records.
