How Registration Works

  1. Submit an Application
Owners or breeders complete the appropriate online registration form, including DNA results (if required), microchip number, photographs, and supporting documents.

  2. Verification by the Registration Committee
The Registration Committee, made up of three elected members, verifies every application by checking:

  • Membership eligibility,

  • Name compliance with naming rules and existing prefixes,

  • DNA, service certificates, breeding returns, and microchip details,

  • Conformation to the AFHA breed standards.

Applications can be marked as:

  • Verified (approved),

  • Restricted (e.g., Kvit horses),

  • Incomplete (missing information), or

  • Failed (does not meet breed or registration requirements).

  1. Final Registration
Once three committee members verify an application, the Registrar finalises the registration, enters the horse into the studbook, and issues the registration certificate by email.

The target timeframe for processing is within 7 business days.

If There’s a Problem

  • If information is missing, the owner will be notified immediately and given 7 business days to correct it.

  • If the application fails, the owner will be notified with reasons and provided options for appeal.

Appeals as per Bylaw 3

  • An owner can lodge a written appeal within 30 business days of notification through the Registration Appeal Form.

  • Appeals are reviewed by the full AFHA Committee within 10 business days.

  • If still unsuccessful, the owner may request a vote of the general membership, with cases presented anonymously for an online vote.
